Methodology
How to read this dataset
Two definitions, not one
Estate-only: Estate-only combines the dashboard case types “Probate/Wills/Intestate” and “Other Probate/Estate.”
Full probate division: Full probate division includes every case type reported under the dashboard’s “Probate” category, including estate matters, guardianships, conservatorships, adoptions, elder-abuse matters, and other reported probate case types.
What the figures cannot show
A termination is a court reporting measure, not proof that the same cases filed in that fiscal year were completed. Reporting can lag. The filing/termination gap is not an average duration, a backlog count, or a prediction.
The public dashboard’s earlier series has a FY2018 reporting break; this publication charts FY2019 forward. Arizona fiscal years run July 1 through June 30.
